What Makes This Cat Purr?
Buddhapuss Ink was born . . .
on a blustery winter day over a cup of coffee between friends as they bemoaned the state of affairs in traditional publishing and the inevitability of a coming sea change.
That cup of coffee grew into several large, empty pots. What started as a germ of an idea thrown out into the conversation soon blossomed into a full-blown plan to start a new, independent, small publishing house with three goals:
- To put our readers first
- To stay lean and agile (important assets for a cat)
- To take the time to “grow” new authors
One thing we all agreed on from the start. First we had to throw out the old rule book. Out it went without a whimper. Much coffee, many sandwiches and meetings later, we had our plan.
Our list will be decidedly small at first. We will on focus on each book and author, giving them the time and nourishment they need to reach their full potential.
Buddhapuss Ink will specialize in series fiction for the serie-ous reader. Although our main thrust at first was mystery/thrillers, we have branched out into other genres as well. Our list will include Young Adult, Middle Grade, and Tween fiction series, as well as, adult.

When?
Our first title, a mystery/thriller The Last Track from a brilliant new writer, Sam Hilliard, released on February 13th, 2010. Be sure and check out the book trailer.
In addition to regular fiction, we will publish several annuals – some of which will eventually become quarterlys – that will be showcase collections of work by new, unpublished authors and poets.
We feel this will benefit both writers and readers by providing writers new exposure and audiences. Readers will be able to sample works from writers they might never have seen otherwise. Some of these writerrs will join our list, others may go on to other houses, but all will benefit from the experience.
Contributing writers will be chosen from entries in each Showcase Contest. Each contest will have a different theme or area of concentration and each will have its own panel of readers and judges. There will never be any fee to enter. Every winning entry will have their piece published in the Showcase collection as well as having their piece featured on our website on a rotating basis.
Future showcases will include Mysteriy/Thriller, YA, Tweens, Crime, and ChickLit.
How and Where?
All our titles will be available in traditional print (Trade Paperback), as well as electronic format. They will be available for sale directly from us at this website, by order in bookstores from the major wholesalers, and at online retailers.
Why?
Because we think there’s a better way to provide highly entertaining, well-written books for readers who are growing tired of the same old stuff served up at the same old prices by traditional publishers.
